Brad Stefanoni, of Pittsburg, brings to life Roy, a poker buddy with a dry wit who also is Oscar's accountant — not a stretch, since by day Brad is the assistant director of purchasing at PSU. A big fan of "The Odd Couple," he had been hoping for a role in it since January, when he purchased a script and began reading lines. He is a longtime audience member of PCT, where his wife and two sons have been active in shows. Brad began his own stint as a performer last fall as the bartender in “My Way,” and since then has appeared in shows at Joplin Little Theatre and Stone’s Throw Dinner Theatre. He loves the outdoors and is an avid hunter and fisherman. Tickets are now on sale! Visit www.memorialauditorium.org #PCTOddCouple
Mark Johnson, a professor in the College of Technology at PSU, always loved the story of “The Odd Couple,” including both the movie and the TV show. Cast as Vinnie, one of the poker buddies who is mild-mannered and henpecked, he's an easy target for verbal barbs. Johnson’s PCT performance resumé is lengthy and includes such roles as Grandpa in “Grapes of Wrath” (2014), Judge Danforth in “The Crucible,” (2006), Bob Ewell in “To Kill a Mockingbird” (2013). Johnson also consults with the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage and Motion Picture Employees as a master trainer in teaching their apprentice trainers how to teach. Kevin Pommier, a graphic designer/screen printing group leader at Extremely Outrageous Creations, is bringing to life Murray, an NYPD policeman — one of Oscar and Felix's poker buddies — in “The Odd Couple.” Kevin’s 20 years in performing has included roles like the Cowardly Lion in “Wizard of Oz” (1999), Nicely Nicely Johnson in “Guys and Dolls” (2009), and Prince Harry in “Once Upon a Mattress” (2000). In real life, Kevin lives in Girard, sings in a barbershop chorus in Joplin, and can solve a Rubik’s cube. Tickets are now on sale at www.memorialauditorium.org! #PCTOddCouple
Michael Doue, vice president of Exchange State Bank in Girard, is portraying Oscar Madison, one of two lead characters in "The Odd Couple" and a slovenly, recently divorced sportswriter. It’s a stretch for Michael as in real life, he is much more like Felix: a bit of a neat freak with everything organized and in place. Michael is a veteran PCT performer, having just wrapped production on “Gypsy” this summer as the male lead, Herbie. He’s also had character and ensemble roles in “Secret Garden,” (1999) “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof” (2002), “Into the Woods” (2004), “The Music Man” (2006), “Annie” (2014), and many others. Chris Stonecipher, an on-air personality at KKOW Radio, is portraying one of our show’s two lead characters, Felix Ungar — a fastidious, hypochondriac photographer whose marriage is ending. Chris loved the Jack Lemmon-Walter Matthau version of the show when he was a child, and performed excerpts from "The Odd Couple" as Felix when he was a high school forensics competitor. A native of Grove, Oklahoma, he calls Pittsburg home now and enjoys karaoke, video games, podcasting, Netflix, writing, reading, and music. Tickets go on sale Monday at www.memorialauditorium.org! #PCTOddCouple
From PCT Director John Mazurek:
Thank you to everyone who auditioned for our fall show, "The Odd Couple." It was a really tough decision to choose the cast because all of you had talent. It was especially hard to narrow down the field of women to the two female roles. It simply boiled down to who I could envision in each specific role. Congrats to those who were selected! If you didn't make the final cut, please don't be discouraged! We welcome you to audition again for a future show! To those who did, read-throughs begin on Monday at my house. I'm looking forward to beginning work! Oscar Madison: Played by Michael Doue A slovenly, recently divorced sportswriter. Felix Ungar: Played by Chris Stonecipher A fastidious, hypochondriac photographer whose marriage is ending. Murray: Played by Kevin Pommier An NYPD policeman, one of Oscar and Felix's poker buddies. Speed: Played by Tony Wagner One of the poker buddies. Gruff and sarcastic, often picking on Vinnie and Murray. Vinnie: Played by Mark Johnson One of the poker buddies. Vinnie is mild-mannered and henpecked, making him an easy target for Speed's verbal barbs. Roy: Played by Brad Stefanoni One of the poker buddies. Oscar's accountant. Roy has a dry wit but is less acerbic than Speed. Cecily & Gwendolyn Pigeon: Played by Sarah Hall & MJ Harper Oscar and Felix's giggly upstairs neighbors, a pair of English sisters. The former is a divorcée, the latter a widow. To see Parker Leas perform with grace and beauty as Clara in Midwest Regional Ballet's "The Nutcracker," one would never guess she'd be cast in "Gypsy" as Baby Louise, the slightly awkward sister of the talented Baby June, who is always in the limelight.
The Joplin eighth grader says performing awkwardly in this role was inspired by her own awkwardness off the stage: "At home and in gym, I'm actually kind of clumsy," she said. Parker, who is one of Kaye Lewis' junior company dancers with Midwest Regional Ballet, has performed in "Nightmare Before Christmas," "Alice in Steampunk Wonderland," and "Cats," and in PCT was a munchkin and flying monkey in "The Wizard of Oz." She was inspired to try out for "Gypsy" after seeing it a few years ago at Joplin Little Theatre. Her mother, Staci, drives her to Pittsburg from Joplin each night for rehearsals and performances, which Parker says she appreciates "very much." "I just love being on stage," she said. Don't miss Parker on stage as Baby Louise in Gypsy July 28-31; tickets are on sale now at www.memorialauditorium.org and at the box office at 503 N. Pine, 620-231-7827.
