The Diary of Anne Frank
By Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett
Synopsis Based on the real-life diary of Anne Frank, this powerful and deeply human drama tells the story of two Jewish families and a dentist who hide from Nazi persecution in a secret attic above a business in Amsterdam during World War II. For over two years, eight people live in constant fear of discovery, relying on trusted friends for food, news, and hope. At the heart of the story is Anne Frank, a bright, outspoken, and imaginative young girl whose diary becomes a lifeline during confinement. As time passes, tensions rise, relationships evolve, and the realities of adolescence unfold within the cramped quarters. Moments of humor, conflict, tenderness, and courage emerge as the occupants struggle to maintain their humanity under unimaginable circumstances. The Diary of Anne Frank is ultimately a story of resilience, hope, and the enduring belief in the goodness of people—even in the darkest of times. The play offers rich, emotional roles and strong ensemble work, making it a profound and rewarding experience for performers and audiences alike.
