Are you ready to take your theatre journey to the next level?
Introducing Rising Starz, Pittsburg Community Theatre’s advanced summer camp experience designed for aspiring performers and theatre tech students ages 13–18. Building on the foundation of our youth camp Jr. Starz for ages 6–12, this next-level opportunity offers an immersive, hands-on experience for teens ready to grow their skills onstage and behind the scenes.
🎬 What to Expect:
This four-week intensive is more than just a camp—it's a full theatre experience. In collaboration with the Bicknell Family Center for the Arts and the Pittsburg State University Theatre Department, participants will have the opportunity to:
  • 🎤 Hone acting, voice, and movement techniques
  • 🎭 Rehearse and perform in a full-scale production
  • 🎨 Gain hands-on backstage experience
  • 💡 Learn technical theatre skills, including lighting, sound, costuming, and stage management
  • 🎓 Work with experienced directors, designers, and PSU faculty
Whether your passion is the spotlight or the tech booth, Rising Starz will give you the tools, mentorship, and experience to shine.

Get ready for a spooky good time! Pittsburg Community Theatre’s Rising Starz campers take the stage in the wildly funny and delightfully weird musical comedy Beetlejuice Junior—a youth-friendly adaptation of the Broadway hit based on Tim Burton’s beloved film.
Synopsis:
When recently deceased couple Barbara and Adam Maitland find themselves haunting their old home, they soon realize they’re no match for the new living tenants: the eccentric Deetz family and their strange, death-obsessed daughter, Lydia. Desperate to reclaim their home, the Maitlands enlist the help of a mischievous, wise-cracking bio-exorcist named Beetlejuice. But things quickly spiral into chaos when Beetlejuice’s antics unleash havoc from the Netherworld. With hauntingly fun songs, hilarious characters, and heartfelt moments, Beetlejuice Junior is a ghostly ride packed with laughs, heart, and just the right amount of creepy charm!
Cast Synopsis:
This production features talented teen performers (ages 13–18) from our Rising Starz summer theatre intensive. Throughout July, these young artists worked alongside experienced theatre educators and professionals from the Pittsburg State University Theatre Department and Bicknell Family Performing Arts Center, as well as the talented PCT staff/directors that have produced season after season of memorable productions for our community. Students will not only be rehearsing their roles, but some students can also learn the backstage and technical elements of bringing a full production to life.
From set building and lighting design to costume coordination and stage management, Rising Starz campers have truly done it all—onstage and off.
