This summer, Pittsburg Community Theatre invites you to experience the timeless magic of Oliver!, the award-winning musical that has delighted audiences for generations. Bursting with unforgettable songs, high-energy choreography, and a heartwarming story, Oliver! is classic musical theatre at its very best.
Follow young orphan Oliver Twist as he escapes the harsh realities of the workhouse and discovers the vibrant, unpredictable streets of Victorian London. Along the way, he encounters a colorful cast of characters—from the mischievous Artful Dodger and the larger-than-life Fagin to the powerful and emotional Nancy—each bringing humor, danger, and heart to Oliver’s journey.
With beloved musical numbers like “Food, Glorious Food,” “Consider Yourself,” and “As Long As He Needs Me,” Oliver! combines thrilling ensemble scenes with deeply moving moments. It’s a story of hope, found family, and the belief that kindness can change a life.

Oliver! Character Synopsis

​​Principal RolesOliver Twist
Male, child (approx. 8–12). Sweet, innocent, and courageous. Strong singer with a clear, youthful voice. Appears throughout the show.
Fagin

Male, 40s–60s. Charismatic, clever, and morally ambiguous leader of a gang of pickpocket boys. Strong comedic timing and singing ability required.
Nancy

Female, late teens–30s. Warm-hearted and streetwise with deep emotional complexity. Strong vocalist and actor; one of the show’s most dramatic roles.
Bill Sikes

Male, 30s–50s. Violent, intimidating criminal. Primarily an acting role with limited singing. Requires strong stage presence.
​Mr. Brownlow

Male, 50s–70s. Kind, educated, and compassionate gentleman who becomes Oliver’s protector.
Featured RolesThe Artful Dodger (Jack Dawkins)
Male, teen. Sharp, confident, and witty leader among Fagin’s boys. Strong singer and dancer.
Bet
Female, teen–20s. One of Fagin’s gang; tough, energetic, and featured in musical numbers.
Mr. Bumble
Male, 40s–60s. Pompous and self-important beadle of the workhouse. Strong comic actor with singing ability.
Mrs. Corney
Female, 40s–60s. Widow and matron of the workhouse. Comic role with singing; later becomes Mrs. Bumble.
Mrs. Bedwin
Female, 50s–70s. Mr. Brownlow’s warm and proper housekeeper.
Charlotte
Female, teen–20s. Workhouse girl, sharp-tongued and spirited.
Noah Claypole
Male, teen–20s. Bully and troublemaker from the workhouse. Comic villain role.
